I have been a mum for almost thirty years.......sounds like a bit of a life sentence doesn't it? But in reality, it has been an amazing journey, adventure, challenge, thrill and times of highs and lows that not everyone has the privilege of having.
So, at this time when we are all thinking about "Mothers' Day" I want to take a moment to think of those whose own mothers were not able to really be the mothers they would have wanted or deserved. This is a burden that can be difficult to carry. I also want to take a moment to think of those women who have wanted to have children but for whatever the reason this has not happened. For some it is the pain of infertility and for others it is the consequence of seeking to walk God's way and remain single and celibate while trusting God for His plan for their lives. So while we are advertising our cards and gifts for "Mothers' Day", we also honour those whose dreams have not yet, and may never be, realised. When I think of them, the title of a book by Adrian Plass comes to mind: "A Smile on the Face of God."
