Apparently, today is a world day of appreciation for Record Stores. At the end of 2016, it was widely reported that vinyl album sales had surpassed digital downloads for the first time ever. And in keeping with the times, we now stock a variety of vinyl records. New artists as well as established bands now release vinyl. We have some by Rend Collective, All Sons & Daughters and The Brilliance that all arrived yesterday, with more on back order to arrive soon! We also have some second-hand vinyl records upstairs.
In the mean time, keep checking our Promotions page for more updates about our vinyl record selection. - SOPHIE xx BE BLESSED Resurrection Sunday: Closed
Bank Holiday Monday: Closed Tuesday onwards: Open everyday as normal This month I read 'Crazy Busy' by Kevin DeYoung. It is a (mercifully) short book, roughly 120 pages, about a (really) big problem. How often have we said/heard others day, “I'm too busy”?
In his book, Kevin DeYoung, explains why he could be the worst person on earth to write this book or how maybe being an extremely busy person could actually make him the best candidate to write such a book. Some of the chapters in this book cover: 'Three Dangers to Avoid', 'What God Does Not Expect You to Do', 'Setting Priorities' and 'The One Thing You Must Do'. However, this is not a self-help book. I really enjoyed reading this book because the author wasn't criticising his readers for being busy people, rather Kevin DeYoung was actually sympathising with us and I found myself agreeing with some of what he said. One thing that really stood out and challenged me was this, 'If someone recorded your life for a week and then showed it to a group of strangers, what would they conclude is the one thing you must get done every day? Folding the laundry? Cleaning the house? Catching up on e-mails? Posting to Facebook? Mowing the lawn?' I found this quite thought-provoking. - SOPHIE xx Last month I read 'Courageous', a novelization by Randy Aclorn, based on the movie by Alex and Stephen Kendrick. It is a roughly 360 page New York Times Bestseller published by Tyndale.
The book is about four men who have one calling; to serve and protect. They are heroes protecting the streets, and yet they are also fathers who are struggling to connect with their offspring. Can anything awaken them to a greater calling? “You've been a good enough father.” “I don't wanna be a 'good enough' father.” Join Adam Mitchell, Nathan Hayes and their work colleagues and families as what they encounter transforms their lives and they discover that honour begins at home, in this fantastic book. I believe that this book and film are powerful. They'll make you smile, laugh and cry. This inspiring novel is superbly written with the framework being the heart-pounding drama by the Kendrick brothers, about 20% of the book comes directly from the movie. I challenge you to read the book, or watch the movie, and let it change your life. The film trailer alone gave me goosebumps all over! - SOPHIE xx 'TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND DO NOT LEAN ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING.
