With lockdown measures in place across the UK, everyone is looking for things they can do to keep them busy at home, and many people might turn to gardening. It's spring time, the weather is warming up, you've got plenty of time on your hands to make your garden look stunning and it's good exercise - win win! If you are interested in creating your own compost heap, as part of a new look garden, or you're just interested anyway, then read on! Our friends at Traidcraft came together with people at the Royal Horticultural Society and got some expert advice about home composting. You can read it here.
This year the theme is CHOCOLATE!
Continuing on from last year the focus will be on cocoa and the special role women farmers play in the journey to achieving living incomes. Only Fairtrade protects farmers from rock bottom prices.
So, here at Kingdom Krafts we are having a chocolate tasting on Saturday 29th Feb available all day. Also on Wednesday 4th March, we will be celebrating our 18th birthday and will have some chocolate birthday cake available for customers as well as a visit by some Ysgol Tudno pupils who will be reminding us why Fairtrade is so important. The fun starts at 2pm and we'd love as many as possible to join us!
2020 will be an interesting year! We will be celebrating 18 years of being a presence here in Llandudno but we will also be saying goodbye to our two paid part-time members of staff - Pam who has been with us since we started, and is retiring, and Emma who has worked here for the past few years, and is moving away and getting married. So, can you help in any way?
Volunteers are needed! Can you see yourself:
This month we're celebrating 25 years of the Fairtrade Mark.
These days you'll find the mark in green and blue (like opposite) or black and white.
It's a quarter of a century since the FAIRTRADE Mark launched in the UK.
For 25 years, Fairtrade and it's supporters have been fighting against poverty and inequality, making a real difference to the lives of farmers and workers.
From working with businesses and governments, teaching about Fairtrade in schools, campaigning and lobbying, to choosing Fairtrade in the shops, you have been part of this journey.
We had a great day with Author Suzy Senior reading her stories to groups of children. Some children (and staff) came in fancy dress costumes. The cupcakes were given out to appreciative customers and staff alike! The treasure hunt was enjoyed by all and we were able to welcome new families into the shop that had never visited us before. A big "Thank you" to everyone who helped make this day a success.

At this year's CRT conference Beacon Books came runner-up out of over 300 other stores, as "Small Retailer of the year 2019".
Pam and Emma were there to collect the award.
Our thanks go to our volunteers who help to keep the place running as well as all our customers, the locals and those who come on holiday and visit us year after year! We are also so thankful to God for sustaining us year after year and providing for us step by step.
We must of course give our huge congratulations to the store that won the award: Eastbourne Christian Resource Centre.
